The Chosen

Called and selected for the King's service

“And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;”
Daniel 1:3 KJV

Opening thought

One of the most interesting sports that brings people together is football. People from different parts of the globe compete with each other. However, before this begins, there is always training organized by a coordinator, the coach.

The devotional message

Many people, the players, are called to take part in the training exercise. But in the end, only a few are chosen to represent the club, or the country, in the main game. Criteria are set for the selection process. This is very important, to ensure that the most skillful, intelligent, and disciplined players are selected.

The Selection of the Hebrew Children

The Scripture we read tells of the selection of the Hebrew children. These young men were captives in a strange land, but the king needed men who would represent his kingdom in administration and in palace service. He gave the list of qualifications.

God's Call to Everyone

Beloved, God has shown us His love through His only Son, Jesus Christ. He has given a call to everyone. He does not look at your inabilities or abilities; He looks for a heart that is willing to answer His call.

Jesus said, "For many are called, but few are chosen" (Matthew 22:14, KJV). Just as the Hebrew children were selected to serve in the king's palace, you have been called to serve the King of kings. Will you answer His call and be among the chosen?

He has given a call to everyone.

Closing prayer

Father, thank You for showing Your love through Your only Son, Jesus Christ, and for calling everyone, including me. I answer Your call today. Prepare me, shape me, and use me to represent Your kingdom wherever You place me. In Jesus' name, amen.
