Day 08 of 31

Beware

Check your spiritual thermometer

Today's Scripture

“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”
1 Corinthians 10:12 KJV

Opening thought

Have you ever had an experience where you felt that you were well prepared for a challenge, but on arriving and taking the test, you discovered that you were not adequately prepared? This is very common among students, especially during examination periods. This is the time when their preparation is put to the test. Many students experience massive failure because of a lack of proper preparation.

The devotional message

The Danger of Self-Sufficiency

Today's Scripture tells us of the need to examine ourselves. Many times we become self-sufficient because of our spiritual experiences. We think we have arrived. We think we already know God. That is a subtle deception from the devil. That is when the devil creeps in and draws us away from the faith.

Check Your Spiritual Thermometer

As believers, we must constantly evaluate ourselves. Examine your thoughts and emotions. Examine the strength of your faith. "Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed..."

Check your spiritual thermometer. Are there little sins in your heart that have gone undetected? Are there unresolved quarrels? Is there unforgiveness or bitterness in your spirit? Check yourself.

Closing prayer

Lord, search my heart. Keep me from the pride that thinks it has arrived. Show me any hidden sin, any unresolved quarrel, and any unforgiveness or bitterness in my spirit, and help me to deal with it before You. Strengthen my faith, keep me humble, and hold me fast so that I do not fall. In Jesus' name, amen.
