Day 12 of 31

Thy Will Be Done

God has a good plan for His children

Today's Scripture

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10 KJV

Opening thought

Every father has a plan for his children from the moment they are born. Some parents open accounts for their children and start saving for them, so that when they grow up they can start life without hassle. Others invest in their children's education by sending them overseas to study, so that they can build a better future. These plans vary from parent to parent.

The devotional message

God's Plan for You

Think about God, our heavenly Father. Does He have a plan for mankind? The Scripture answers this in Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope" (NKJV).

God has a good plan for His children. We have seen it demonstrated through His Son, Jesus Christ: while we were still sinners, He died for us to save us from our sins.

His Will Must Stand

We may have many plans in our hearts, but ultimately it is God's will that will stand. Proverbs 19:21 says, "There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless the LORD's counsel—that will stand" (NKJV).

As we step out today, let us pray this prayer of Jesus Christ: "Thy will be done" in our lives. Even in the face of death, Jesus Christ, our perfect example, submitted His will to do the will of His Father.

Closing prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your thoughts of peace toward me and for the future and hope You have prepared. Thank You for showing Your good plan through Jesus Christ, who died for me while I was still a sinner. I bring my plans before You. Let Your counsel stand in my life. As Jesus submitted to Your will even in the face of death, teach me to say, "Not my will, but Yours be done." In Jesus' name, amen.
