“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
Opening thought
One of the secrets of healthy living is a regular checkup. Many times we are afflicted with diseases we may not even know about. These diseases are subtle and can hide in our bodies for a long time, eating away at tissues and vital organs. When, through their subtlety, they succeed in destroying the immune system, we become vulnerable to all kinds of infection.
The devotional message
Sometimes they are detected at an early stage when we go for a regular checkup. The doctor examines our body, identifies an unusual pattern, and gives the treatment needed to destroy them.
A Spiritual Checkup
It is the same with our spiritual life. The inner man must be strengthened, so a regular spiritual checkup is very important. It helps us to monitor our progress and to know when cankerworms and caterpillars have crept in to destroy our spiritual life (Joel 2:25).
We must always expose ourselves to the living Word of God, so that God can take away the hidden sins, the little foxes, and the lifestyles that spoil our vines (Song of Solomon 2:15).

Lord, You see what I cannot see. Examine my heart and my life. Show me every hidden sin, every little fox, and every habit that is quietly destroying my spiritual life. Strengthen my inner man by Your Word and Your Spirit, and restore what has been eaten away. In Jesus' name, amen.
