Day 20 of 111

Have You Asked?

Only those who ask will receive

Today's Scripture

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
Matthew 7:7 KJV

Opening thought

When I was growing up, as a teenager, I noticed something among my siblings. They found it difficult to ask our father for things. I was the only one who could muster the courage to go to him and ask.

The devotional message

What usually gave me courage was the way I thought about it. When the others refused to go and ask him, I would ask myself, "Who is this man to me?" And I would answer, "He is my father. He brought me into this world. So I am going to ask him, whether he gives it to me or not. Let me ask first and wait for his response."

Ask Your Father

Brethren, this is similar to our relationship with God. Many of us have not asked God for anything. Some feel they have no need of Him; some feel they already have everything at their disposal; others feel they do not know what to ask. But it is wrong not to ask. Only those who ask will surely receive. The Scripture says, "...ye have not, because ye ask not" (James 4:2, KJV).

What problems or questions do you not know how to solve? Jesus Christ is the answer to every problem. He has given us His Holy Spirit, who is the greatest Teacher. He is ever willing to teach us, guide us, direct us, and perfect the will of God in us. Have you asked?

Closing prayer

Father, You are my Father, and I come to You as Your child. Forgive me for the times I have not asked because of pride, self-sufficiency, or fear. I bring my needs and my questions to You today. Holy Spirit, teach me, guide me, direct me, and perfect the will of God in me. In Jesus' name, amen.
