Day 21 of 111

What Are You Seeking?

The pursuit that truly satisfies

Today's Scripture

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
Matthew 7:7 KJV

Opening thought

Everyone is in pursuit of something. Some people are pursuing women, others fame, and some are in pursuit of money. No one is truly idle; even an idle man is pursuing something. Most of the rewards we receive are the profits of our pursuits. But it is very important to note that most of our pursuits bring only temporary satisfaction.

The devotional message

A Red Diploma

I remember my bachelor's program. I was very dedicated to my studies, yet I never slacked in my pursuit of God's purpose for my life. I gave my all to graduate with distinction, and I am grateful that God helped me to achieve it.

But something happened to me on my graduation day. The university rector called me out, handed me my "red diploma" (the diploma with honors), and whispered in my ear, "You're a great man." After receiving my award as the best graduating student, I suddenly felt empty. I asked myself, "Is this paper worth all my pursuit? Is this the reason I read through the night, starved myself, and worked so hard?" I felt unfulfilled. I never got a job with that certificate, and I have since changed course.

What Is Your Pursuit?

Everyone will always find what he is looking for. What is your life's pursuit? Examine yourself today.

Closing prayer

Lord, You know what I have been chasing. Thank You for every success You have helped me achieve, but I confess that no achievement can fill my heart. Teach me to seek You first and to pursue Your purpose for my life above everything else. Let my life's pursuit be pleasing to You. In Jesus' name, amen.
