“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
Matthew 7:7 KJV
Opening thought
While we were growing up, one of the lessons my mother taught us was always to knock before entering our dad's room or anyone else's home. That lesson helped us as we grew.
The devotional message
Sometimes we would knock once, get no response, and go back to tell our parents that the people were not at home. But she would send us back to keep knocking. When we went back and did as she instructed, we would get an answer from the owners of the house.
Knocking on Heaven's Door
This is similar to our walk with God. We must learn to knock when we approach God. Even when we find the door closed against us because of our disobedience, we must persist through faith, repentance, and humility. Our knock is saying yes to God's Word, believing every word He has spoken, and submitting totally to His will. Then the gate of heaven will be opened to us.
He Knocks Too
Jesus Christ stands at the door of our hearts and knocks. If anyone hears His voice and opens the door, He will come in (Revelation 3:20). We should do likewise today. Keep knocking, and do not give up. Lift your voice in prayer and make your heart known to God.

Closing prayer
Lord, thank You for teaching me to ask, seek, and knock. Forgive me for the disobedience that has closed doors in my life. Give me faith, repentance, and humility to keep knocking until You answer. Lord Jesus, I hear You knocking at the door of my heart; come in and dwell with me. In Jesus' name, amen.
