Day 24 of 111

The Narrow Way

The road that leads to life

Today's Scripture

“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 7:14 KJV

Opening thought

Life has different pathways, and each one leads to an eternal destination. These ways are not imposed on us by design. Rather, we find ourselves on one of these pathways through our choices, actions, and lifestyles. Often, we also follow a path by following people we choose as models or idols, whose lives tend to influence our behavior.

The devotional message

A Choice to Make

Following Jesus Christ is a choice anyone can make. God does not force Himself on anyone, even though He made us in His likeness. He allows us to choose our ways and to do things the way we want. But it is very important to note that good intentions are not necessarily God's intentions.

Not Appealing to the Flesh

God's way may not be comfortable for the natural man. His ways are not pleasing to the flesh, and His words burn like fire (Jeremiah 23:29). So it takes endurance, will, and choice to keep walking in the path of truth and righteousness. This is why only a few people walk it. The narrow way is an unattractive way; it does not appeal to the flesh. But it is the way of life. It is the way that leads to God's kingdom.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is death (Proverbs 14:12). Watch your steps.

Closing prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the way that leads to life. Thank You for giving me the freedom to choose. Today I choose You. Give me endurance, will, and courage to keep walking in the path of truth and righteousness when it is hard on my flesh. Keep me from the way that seems right but ends in death. In Jesus' name, amen.
