Day 25 of 111

Identity

Known by your fruit

Today's Scripture

“Ye shall know them by their fruits.”
Matthew 7:16a KJV

Opening thought

Every object has a mark or characteristic by which it is described, identified, and classified. Man has an identity that makes him unique among all the creatures God made. Brothers and sisters, everyone has an identity.

The devotional message

More Than a Name

We often think our identity is our name. Your parents may give you a beautiful name, but that name is just a coat you are wearing. Your real name, your true identity, is the fruit you bear. Jesus said, "Ye shall know them by their fruits." God's people are known and distinguished by the fruit they produce. Their fruit shows whom they belong to and who their Father really is.

The Scripture says, "...every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit" (Matthew 7:17, KJV). What kind of fruit are you bearing?

The Fruit of the Spirit

The Scripture says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance" (Galatians 5:22–23, KJV). This fruit can be found only in those who have yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit. They manifest the life of God in all they do. Their words are seasoned with grace. They are peacemakers. They have the life of God in them.

What is your identity?

Closing prayer

Holy Spirit, I yield to Your leading. Grow Your fruit in me: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. Let my words be seasoned with grace, and make me a peacemaker. Let my life show clearly whom I belong to and who my Father is. In Jesus' name, amen.
